Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Brings the Fight Home

After Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition was released in arcades throughout Japan, fighting game fans throughout the rest of the world were left in the cold by Capcom. However, Capcom seeks to remedy this by announcing their latest plan to bring this game to households worldwide.

Today Capcom revealed that Super Street IV Arcade Edition will be available on both the PC and consoles. The new Street Fighter content can be obtained through downloadable content or by purchasing a disk at a local video game retailer.

The title will also include two new features, which will not be available to its arcade counterpart. These features include an upgraded replay channel and character costume customization. The new replay channel in particular will provide users with a unique opportunity to follow and view high level player’s fights.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition will be available on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on June 7 of this year. However, people who wish to get the disk version will have to wait until June 28.

Bethesda Softworks’ upcoming shooter, Brink will be hitting shelves earlier than expected as production for the title has nearly finished.

According to a statement made by Bethesda yesterday, Brink will be available a week earlier than originally announced. The game is now scheduled for a May 10 release in the United States and a May 13 release in Europe.

"Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn't see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready," Bethesda Softworks Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing, Pete Hines said.

Gamestop's Digital Age

Video game retailer, Gamestop is attempting to push into the digital realm by expanding their digital distribution.

Gamestop’s commitment to this goal is supported by their acquisition Spawn Labs, a company that develops streaming technology, and the digital distribution platform, Impulse Inc.

"With these important acquisitions, we will continue to make appropriate investments related to our multichannel strategy," Gamestop CEO J. Paul Raines said.

With these new acquisitions and Gamestop’s growing stock of digitally sold games, it is possible that physical game discs may one day become a thing of the past.

"GameStop is uniquely positioned to be the leader in both the physical and digital gaming space,” Raines said.

Sony Cancels The Agency

Last week, Sony Online Entertainment announced the cancellation of The Agency, a massively multiplayer shooter based in the spy and mercenary world.

The project lost steam after the closure of their Denver, Tucson and Seattle branches. Sony claims that this is merely an attempt to reorganize their employees and increase efficiency. However, nearly 205 employees will lose their jobs.

According to Sony, the reason The Agency was cancelled was in order to focus on two different game titles based on their popular Everquest and Planetside franchises.

Existing Sony Online Entertainment titles, like DC Universe, will be unaffected by the corporate restructuring
